Clear Lip Retainer For Work?

I bought a clear lip retainer at Body Mods today because I can't have a facial piercing for work. The thing is, the post is really long and you can definitely tell it's there. The woman that worked there told me there was only one post size, so I was wondering if anyone knows if you can cut these? I definitely can't wear it as is, so I need to know if there's a way to fix the one I already have.
